Zuva defrauded $1317 fuel
A HARARE man and his accomplice, who is still on the run, allegedly hatched a plan and duped Zuva Service Station of 1 020 litres of diesel worth $1 317.
Joseph Chirunga appeared before Harare Magistrate Milton Serima and he was not asked to plead to the fraud charges.
Chirunga was granted $100 bail as the state represented by Linda Gadzikwa had no objections.
The matter was remanded to August 7.
It is the State’s case that on July 9, the accused, Chirunga, went to Zuva Service Station driving his Toyota Dyna truck with a fuel tank on the trailer.
Chirunga was assisted by the complainant, Joseph Sakunyarara and he told him that he wanted to fill the tank with diesel.
The accused alleged that the payment was to be made after filling in the tank and Joseph said he was communicating with his boss, who is still on the run, before making payment.
Sakunyarara filled 1 020 litres of diesel into the tank, which amounted to $1 317.
Chirunga’s boss allegedly faked an Ecocash payment to Sakunyarara merchant code and Sakunyarara was deceived by a fake confirmation.
On July 10 when the Sakunyarara’s manager was doing daily reconciliations he realised that $1 317 was missing.
That is when it was discovered that the Ecocash transaction in question had been fake leading to the arrest of Chirunga.
