ZUPCO CONDUCTOR KILLER ARRESTED – ‘. . . HE WAS SECURITY GUARD’
The man who allegedly shot a ZUPCO conductor has been arrested. The conductor only identified as Joy was shot in the head at Dzivaresekwa 4 bus terminus on Monday.
The accused person fled the scene but was arrested yesterday.
“Police confirm the arrest of Campion Marowa (35) in connection with the case which occurred on Monday at Kadada Shops, DZ. Police recovered a 38 Astra Revolver and 2x.38 spent cartridges. Investigations are underway,” said police in a statement.
Marowa is a security guard who was on duty on the day he allegedly committed the offence. He failed to explain shortage of live ammunition assigned to him leading to his arrest.
Reports suggest that Marowa did not take anything from the deceased after shooting her.
Her belongings, including cash collected and her mobile phone, were found by her body on a Lofombo bus operating under ZUPCO.
ZUPCO chief executive Evaristo Mudangwa confirmed the incident, saying the case was being handled by police. Eyewitness Tashinga Meza said he suspected foul play as she had all her belongings when she was killed.
“She was shot around 9pm and we suspect foul play since she had all her money and belongings with her. We understand that she stays in Msasa Park,” he said.
Residents were shocked by the incident, with many questioning the motive for the shooting when the person left without collecting money or anything from the deceased.
“The incident has left us worried about our life considering that the person probably boarded the bus in town disguised as a passenger only to kill the conductor in our hood,” said one of the residents.
“Reports were that many passengers disembarked the bus at Dzivaresekwa Clinic bus stop and the driver enquired if there was anyone destined for Dzivaresekwa 4.
“The suspect is said to have raised his hand, leading the driver to proceed.
“Some said four passengers were on the bus when the incident occurred and this has brought fear to us as residents of Dzivaresekwa,” said the resident.
