Zimbabweans dominate ABSA Premiership foreign contingent

Zimbabwe has the highest proportion of foreign players registered in the 2018-19 ABSA Premiership season.

According to a report compiled by Nuhu Adams, a football journalist, there are 88 foreigners from 33 countries who are plying their trade in the South African league.

South America and Europe each have five nationalities while Oceania has one. Africa has a massive 22 to bring the total number of countries represented to 33.

Zimbabwe dominates the ABSA Premiership’s foreign quota with twenty-three players at over ten clubs. Namibia follows in second with eight, Ghana on third with six and fourth is Zambia who has five nationals in the league.

Reigning Champions Mamelodi Sundowns hold the largest foreign contingent of ten. Some of these players are registered as locals like Zimbabwe international Cuthbert Malajila who joined the side in 2013.

There are 88 foreigners from 33 nationalities in the @OfficialPSL this season.

Oceania = 1
Africa = 22
Europe = 5

Zimbabwe have the most representative with 23 players followed by Namibia with 8 players, Ghana have 6 players, Zambia have 5 players etc.

Newly promoted side Black Leopards have the least number of foreigners with only 2.

Meanwhile, teams like SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs have at least three Zimbabweans in their squads.

United have goalkeeper Washington Arubi, Onismor Bhasera, Prince Dube and Evans Rusike. Bhasera is registered as a local, having spent more than five years in South Africa.
