Family suffers Covid-19 stigmatisation

Zimbabwe is still grappling with the Coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic which was first recorded in the country in March 2020.

Below is the country’s coronavirus or COVID-19 update or situation report by the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) as of 15 February 2021:

  • New cases: 50
  • Locals: 50
  • Returnees: 0
  • Deaths: 10
  • Tests: 1 481
  • Recoveries: 158
  • National Recovery Rate: 87.3%
  • Active Cases: 3 053
  • Total Cumulative Cases: 35 222
  • Total Recoveries: 30 759
  • Total Deaths: 1 410

In other news, on Monday Zimbabwe received 200 000 doses of a coronavirus vaccine developed by the state-owned China National Biotec Group (CNBG), a subsidiary of the China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm).

However, a pamphlet accompanying the SinoPharm vaccine indicates that the medicine should not be administered to people with chronic conditions. The pamphlet reads:

Who can’t take the vaccine? Children and young people under the age of 18 years, women who are presently pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy within the next six weeks….Full Report
