Zim violent protests took Mnangagwa by surprise
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa says the government is surprised by violence that broke out after the announcement of National Assembly results.
He’s laying the loss of life, at the MDC’s door.
But the party is refusing to shoulder the blame, saying the deployment of soldiers reminds them of the killing of thousands in the 80’s.
Mnangagwa has called on Zimbabweans to “desist provocative declarations and statements.”
Members of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party are claiming that the elections have been rigged.
The ruling Zanu-PF party has won the majority of parliamentary seats.
Earlier, violence erupted in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare.
Live ammunition was fired as the Zimbabwe military was brought in to contain the situation.
At this crucial time, I call on everyone to desist from provocative declarations and statements. We must all demonstrate patience and maturity, and act in a way that puts our people and their safety first. Now is the time for responsibility and above all, peace
