David Kokota Masinji (46), who is the Zanu Pf Youth chairperson for Mambwere branch in Zimunya, was sentenced to 6 months in jail for assaulting Colleen Manyiwo (45).

Masinji pleaded guilty to assault with intent to cause bodily grievous harm when he appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate Tendai Mahwe.

He will, however, serve an effective four months after Mahwe suspended two months on condition he did not commit a similar offence within the next five years.

It is the state’s case that Manyiwo was watching World Cup football on TV at a bottle store when Masinji arrived in the company of Amos Makaya.

Makaya instructed the barman to lower the volume of the radio before ordering all MDC supporters to leave the bar.

Manyiwo, an MDC supporter, remained seated resulting in Masinji charging at him, grabbing him by the collar and wrestling him out of the bottle store and beating him.

Manyiwo reported the abuse to the police, leading to Masinji’s arrest.
