Zambian President’s Condolence Message To Cyclone Idai Victims
Zambian President Edgar Lungu has sent a message of condolences to his counterparts in Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique following deaths, injuries and widespread destruction caused by the Cyclone Idai.
In a message to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, President Lungu expressed his heartfelt condolences over the victims of the tragic disaster that is reported to have claimed 89 lives in Zimbabwe and the death toll is expected to rise. Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi has expressed that the number of people who died from the cyclone Idai is likely to exceed one thousand.
“As we mourn with you during this period of grief, we pray that God Almighty will grant comfort to the bereaved families and we wish those injured a speedy recovery. We pray that the nation will find strength to overcome this loss. Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration,” he said.
In a message sent to President Peter Mutharika of Malawi, President Lungu said he learnt with deep sadness the effects of the cyclone which claimed several lives, injured thousands and left a trail of widespread property destruction.
President Lungu said the thoughts and prayers of the Zambian government are with the bereaved families and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Zambia and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to convey to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of Malawi, our deepest sympathies on this tragic incident. In this time of profound sorrow and loss, please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration,” President Lungu said.
Iin a message to President Filipe Nyusi of Mozombique, President Lungu expressed deepest condolences and sympathies to the Government and people of that country and particularly the bereaved families.
“We pray that God Almighty will grant comfort to the bereaved families and we wish those injured a speedy recovery. Allow me to convey to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of the Republic of Mozambique, and particularly the bereaved families, our deepest condolences and sympathies,” said President Lungu.
Cyclone Idai has left a trail of destruction in Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique, killing and injuring hundreds of people and destroying several infrastructure will includes roads, bridges and schools.
