WOMAN GIVES BIRTH OUTSIDE HOSPITAL AFTER SAVAGE TREATMENT BY NURSES | Nurses at Gweru Provincial Hospital are said to be so ruthless with expecting mothers that one young woman went and delivered outside the maternity ward after she saw a colleague being slapped for screaming during labour pain.
There are also reports that on that same day a third expecting mother delivered her baby from the toilet after nurses took time to help her.
Sources said that expecting mothers are shouted at or even beaten by the nurses and on Wednesday last week (September 20), a 15-year-old expecting mother, Sibonginkosi Siziba, referred from Mangwandi Clinic in Lower Gweru saw one such incident and out of fear she walked out of the ward and delivered her baby on a slab outside the hospital.
Siziba is said to have delivered her bouncy baby girl, Nokulunga Moyo, at around 10am.
Gweru Provincial Hospital superintendent, Fabian Mashingaidze confirmed that the young mother delivered outside the hospital but told The Mirror that he would only comment after a full report on the incident is produced.
Sources said after watching an incident in which a nurse slapped a woman in labour for making noise, one of the expecting mother collected her blanket, spread in on a slab just outside the maternity ward and gave birth and other expecting mothers witnessed the incident.
“May I comment after l get a full report of the incident from my Public Relations Officer,” said Mashingaidze.
Sources also said that the minor who wanted help was told to wait because she was not yet in full labour.
