President Mnangagwa, while presiding over the burial of Moses Griffiths Mpofu in the hero acre yesterday, said the government will seize farms from multiple farm owners and all underutilized farms and redistribute them to other people, especially youths, The Standard reports.
Speaking to mourners at Heroes Care, President Mnangagwa said:
The inquiry we have made on agricultural land has identified lots of land which is vacant, underutilised and belongs to multiple owners.
The government will repossess that land for on-leasing to the landless, foremost among them the youths. The land has come. We must cultivate it to grow our economy.
I am aware that our youths are crying out for pieces of land and are eager to work the land. Our land reform programme was a success and it will never be reversed by those opposed to it forever.
Last year, the new agriculture minister, Dr. Anxious Masuka, told farmers who were allocated land through the land reform program to submit their production returns records by January 2021 as he said the government was going to repossess underutilized land.
