A ‘bogus’ soldier, donning complete army regalia from head to toe, has been busted and taken into custody.
However, it seems as if sceptical citizens have not been too quick to buy the narrative with some social media users opining that this seems to be a stunt by the government to try to fit the narrative that military uniforms were stolen and used by criminal elements.
Mnangagwa’s government has denied allegations that the military perpetrated human rights abuses during the brutal clampdown following the January protests over the 150 percent increase in the price of fuel.
At least 17 civilians were killed by state security agents during the unrest.
In February another another man claiming to be a soldier was arrested for fraud and extortion offences committed in Glen View, Harare. Shepherd Magorimbo, a Zanu PF activist whose picture went viral on social media claimed on his Facebook profile that he worked for the Presidential Guard.
Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF has come under fire for distributing army uniforms to its youths and aiding them to masquerade as members of the Zimbabwe National Army in order to cause havoc in the country.
