TUKU STILL SHINING AT 65 | Superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi is now 65 and the iconic singer shows no signs of ageing.
The footloose son of Katekwe delivered a majestic act at Pakare Paye, his backyard, when he enthralled fans who gathered to celebrate his ‘born’ day on a Saturday when many doubting Thomases thought he would not make it.
Tuku, who is known for his philanthropic work as well has mentorship, was also in his usual best as the tunesmith ushered out all his artiste verve on a night that he was also celebrating a milestone in his like.
All the supporting acts he invited came fired up on a night that was special to him.It should be mentioned that the night belonged to Bulawayo’s Iyasa who stole the show with a well choreographed act set to remain engraved in the minds of many for years.
Tuku’s favourite Zambian outfit, Amayenge, had a good day in office as they sent multitudes of fans into delirium with a polished act.It was also a special for Jah Prayzah aka Mukudzei Mukombe as he complimented his ‘spiritual’ father Tuku with yet another inspiring act from start to finish.
In an interview, show coordinator Tungamidzai Simango hailed fans for their loyalty.
“We are grateful for the support our fans have showed us today.
“Of course we started on a low note but people started coming in numbers around 10pm and we thank them for their loyalty which they have shown us today.
“Had it not been for their support, I don’t think the event would have been a success as you have noticed today,” he said.
“Being associated with the Tuku brand makes me feel inspired as well.
“As you know Tuku has seen it all in the music industry and Zimbabweans are blessed to have such an icon.”
