Tapiwa Makore case in false start

The trial of murdered Murewa kid Tapiwa Makore was postponed Monday amid concerns that prosecutors handling the case were preoccupied with another murder trial.

His death made headlines after it was revealed that he was abducted on September 17, 2020, while tending to the family’s vegetable garden.

There were also rumors that his body parts would be sold to a sangoma.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the suspected ritual murder: herdman Tafadzwa Shamba, Tapiwa Makore Senior, Maud Hunidzarira, and Thanks Makore.

Thanks and Maud have been released on bond.

Shamba has previously admitted to kidnapping, drugging, and mutilating the boy in order to sell his body parts to a witch doctor for $1,500.

The State requested the postponement, claiming that the same prosecutors who were managing the Makore hearing were also handling a murder trial before another court.

“We are requesting that the matter be postponed and accommodated from October 3 to 14 because the prosecutors assigned to the case are also involved in another case before another Judge,” the prosecution stated.

The postponement was granted by Justice Priscilla Munangati-Manongwa, who urged all of the defendants to file their defense before the return date.

“Because the prosecutors in charge of prosecuting the accused have stated that they are involved in another subject, the case cannot proceed.”

“Defense attorneys should use this time to collect directions from their clients and file any pending defense outlines.”

“All accused persons granted release must follow their bail conditions, including not interfering with witnesses,” the judge decided.

The late Tapiwa’s mother Linda Munyori, James Makore, Julia Kamunda, Sama Murwira, Joseph Nyambuwa, Joina Tangirire, Joromiya Madimbu, and Andrew Nyadundu, among others, have been instructed to attend the October 3 hearing.

The remains of the late Tapiwa were buried in March last year, seven months after the gruesome murder.
