Student demands $400 maintenance
A Bindura University student has dragged her ex-husband to court demanding $400 maintenance for the upkeep of their minor child.
Mitchel Chimanike accused her former husband, Emmanuel Phiri for neglecting their child.
“I want $400 to cater for the child’s welfare because I am attending school and my domestic worker wants $200 per month.
“He is a bank accountant yet he cannot take care of our child.
“Since we parted ways he has not been taking care of the child and now the child is two years old,” said Chimanike.
Chimanike also told the court that whenever she tries to call Phiri he changes his phone lines.
“Whenever I try to call him to talk about the child’s welfare, he will be not reachable.
“I am tired of his behaviour and I want the court to rule so that he takes care of his child.”
Phiri told the court that he is not employed and will offer $60 per month.
“The amount claimed is not justified as I am not employed.
“I will offer $60 because my father is the one who is going to help me to maintain my child,” he said.
Presiding magistrate Sheila Nazombe ordered Phiri to pay $150 per month.
