Strive Is A “Lumpen Democrat & A Stinking Democrat” – Moyo claps back

Billionaire businessman and founder of Econet Wireless Strive Masiyiwa has come under attack for his alleged hypocrisy from exiled former cabinet minister Jonathan Moyo as the fallout from Masiyiwa’s claims of cyberbullying continues.

Masiyiwa and his wife Tsitsi closed down their Twitter accounts after Tsitsi had come under fire for remarks which she had made, which some interpreted as callous and coming from a position of privilege.

Jonathan Moyo and other prominent media and political analysts then questioned’s Strive’s role and accused him of trying to get Dewa Mavinga fired from his role as the Southern Africa Director for Human Rights Watch (HRW) by name dropping that he was a personal friend of the 95-year-old founder of HRW, Robert L. Bernstein. Strive did not take this very well and accused Moyo of being behind the closing down and bombing of his newspaper, The Daily News.

However, Moyo came back at Strive and also called him out for his alleged hypocrisy for calling President Emmerson Mnangagwa “sincere” when, according to Moyo, Mnangagwa was actually the leader of the people who had bombed the Daily News. Said Moyo,

Strive, you’re a lumpen democrat & a stinking hypocrite. You claim not to read @Twitter, yet you twisted @dewamavhinga’s TL, hoping to cost him his job. You shut down your paper by illegally not registering it. Recently you called the leader of your paper’s bombers, “sincere”!

The Masiyiwas have been criticised for their role in this episode with Human Rights and Media expert Dr Pedzisai Ruhanya saying,

Its oxymoronic that Masiyiwa complains about bogus bullying of his wife Tsitsi by Dewa while he is actually and in reality bullying @dewamavhinga by real and actual threats to make him lose his job, silence him and many others who dare challenge their ideas online using POWER!

Mr Masiyiwa should know that the public sphere/digital sphere is a space where access to information affecting the public good is available, discussion is ideally free from domination, and participation is on equal basis.

Perhaps his colleagues like @TrevorNcube could help him…Money is not everything; it can mislead and bring down even the most powerful. Shakespeare contemplated the strong conflict between reason and emotion and the disorder that arises when reason is obliterated. Zim’s rich must be rational, logical when interacting with the public!
