Striking Nurses Turn Away Patients At Chinhoyi And Kadoma Govt Hospitals
Patients are reportedly being turned away at Chinhoyi and Kadoma hospitals during the on-going national nurses’ strike.
The nurses feeling ignored by government began the strike today leading to absenteeism and refusal to carry out their duties.A source on the ground who requested anonymity said general nurses were not working.
“I visited Kadoma General Hospital and the nurses were not on duty, only ward managers were present on duty” said the source.
The source also alleged that patients have been discharged with some being turned away after coming for treatment.Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital has also reportedly closed its doors to patients.
“Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital is shutting down as we speak. All admitted patients are being discharged due to the strike by nurses and doctors. I’m actually collecting a relative who was admitted” said another source.
Hospitals across the country have been brought to a standstill as nurses have taken industrial action over poor working conditions.
