Son of a senior Police Officer who killed himself after allegedly being involved in Bobo’s death speaks out
The family of a senior cop who killed himself believes in his innocence. This after Lieutenant-Colonel Dingindawo Msomi (49) was accused of being involved in the death of 16-year-old Andile “Bobo” Mbuthu.
Bobo was beaten to death in Hambanathi, Tongaat, north of Durban, before his body was thrown into a river.Dingindawo, from Tongaat Police Station, was found dead in a car a week ago.He apparently took a car from the police station and drove to Tea Estate, where he shot himself with his service pistol.
His son Teddy said he asked his dad about the rumours, but he denied it.“I believed him when he said he wasn’t involved in this matter. There’s another side of him that people didn’t know, but they’re quick to make conclusions,” said Teddy.
Dingindawo allegedly got involved when one of the suspects called him to tell him they had killed Bobo. He allegedly told him to bury the body and he’d deal with the family. When Bobo’s family reported him missing at the Tongaat cop shop, they didn’t get help. They reported it to police provincial authorities and the suspects were bust.
A resident said the family had the right to protect him, but Dingindawo killing himself showed he was hiding something.Bobo’s aunt Zodwa Jali said they didn’t know whether the cop was involved or not. KZN police spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker dismissed the allegations that a cop was involved Bobo’s death.
