SOCIALITE and musician Mai Titi on Friday pleaded with the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service to accord her time to experience life in a prison cell.
Mai Titi said this after hearing challenges being faced by expecting and nursing mothers serving their sentences at Chikurubi Female Prison where the donated sanitary wear; face towels, toilet paper; bathing and washing soaps.
MaiTiti real name Felistas Murata, said she leant from some of the inmates that most of their offences were crimes of passion.
“Ignorance is not a defense when one commits crime and today I realized that some of you were overwhelmed by anger,” said Mai Titi.
“I could have been behind bars had it not been for the power of self-control and love that kept me from fighting the father of my children.
“Although I still enjoy freedom I want ZPCS authorities to give me an opportunity to experience prison life just for three days vozondiendesa launba zvavo.

“How can innocent children undergo hard times along with wrongdoers who committed crime in anger? “Incarcerated women am our relatives they deserve to be treated like humans and I want to thank ZPCS for giving artistes time to add some joy and laughter to inmates.
“After giving my ear to some of the inmates I came to understand the aspect of rehabilitation of offenders and the need to correct convicted people “We are not here to celebrate with offenders or support crime but to give them hope and fulfil God’s plan on evil doers as he commanded us to visit those in captivity.

She described abusive husbands as the main cause of women’s incarceration saying most women are being mistreated silently in their homes.
Mai Titi described prisons as schools where mistakes are corrected and such mistakes are never to be repeated upon release.

I am set to travel to Nigeria anytime soon to meet my lover for s#xual satisfaction,” she said to a thunderous applause She found time to share her marital experiences and dance with the inmates and was accompanied by male and female bouncers arguing that her life is under threat from her detractors.
