A 25-year-old Gweru woman allegedly scalded her live-in boyfriend with cooking oil after he received a Valentine’s call from his ex-wife before she secretly took the badly burnt lover to the hospital.

Tendai Wasara (25) allegedly kept the heinous attack which occurred on Valentine’s Day, a secret for nearly two weeks, visiting her boyfriend, Sedric Govere (35) in Hospital alone.

Govere and Wasara are both employed by a leading wholesale supermarket in Gweru as a supervisor and merchandiser respectively.

Govere, who is still battling for life and recently gained consciousness, only managed to communicate to the hospital staff at Gweru Provincial hospital last Sunday to help him contact one of his relatives to alert them about the attack and where he is.

“We were told on Sunday night that Sedric was battling for life in hospital. We went to the hospital and

found his girlfriend, Tendai at the hospital after bringing him some food.
“We immediately effected citizen arrest on her before handing her to the police at Gweru Central on Monday,” said the relative who requested not to be named.

Wasara has since appeared before Gweru magistrate, Ms Mildred Matuvi facing attempted murder charges.

She was remanded in custody to 12 March 2018.

In a bedside interview yesterday, Mr Govere said he was attacked after he received a valentine phone call from his former wife who also wanted to convey valentine wishes to him.

“I have two kids with the lady that called me named Carlos (12) and Carol (9). I feel there was no problem with that phone call but she got agitated and secretly boiled cooking oil before scalding me,” he said.
