Soldier busted  in possession of boxes of illicit cigarettes

The military police (MP) has arrested a non-commissioned South African National Defense Force (SANDF) soldier in the Seshego area of Limpopo on Sunday 31 May for possession of illicit cigarettes.

A consignment of cigarettes was found in a military vehicle he was driving. The suspect was arrested and taken to the local South African Police Service (SAPS) station for processing. The SANDF soldier, however, cannot be named at this stage, as he has not yet appeared in a court of law.

The MP investigators followed up on a tip-off about a military vehicle that was carrying a consignment of suspected illegal cigarettes and managed to trace and arrest the suspect.Illegal-cigarettes-1

“An investigation on the matter is currently underway and the findings thereof will inform the preferred charges against the NCO,” said SANDF spokesperson Ronald Maseko.
SANDF did not mention what the total value of the cigarettes amounted to.
