Rush for COVID-19 doses
Government has urged people with underlying conditions to rush for Covid-19 vaccination amid huge turn out at roll out centers.
With the threat of a severe third wave of the virus, a considerable number of people are queueing at vaccination centers as compared to the time of initial vaccine roll out.
In an interview with H-METRO, Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Dr John Mangwiro encouraged the high uptake of Covid-19 doses:
“People with Diabetes, Asthma, Cancer, Blood pressure and any underlying disorder must rush to get vaccinated.
“We are urging everyone in Zimbabwe to rush and get vaccinated for COVID-19 at all centers throughout the country.
“This is the right time to do so now and government has set up more centers to cater for everyone, be it at Tobacco auction floors, GMB, borders, Mbare, Sakubva, tertiary institutions and all other vaccination centers.
“We are encouraging people to rush,” he said.
Government will take delivery of another 1,5 million Covid-19 vaccine doses from China this week and as of Friday, 875 182 people had received the first dose, while 588 883 people had been fully vaccinated.
Last week, two million Sinovac doses, the biggest consignment so far were received.
Overall, the country currently has about 4,26 million vaccine doses.
