Rural boy conquers Africa
Despite being raised in Mutasa Growth Point in Manicaland, rapper Snuzzie Brown – real name Tichaona Julius – has made inroads to conquer the continent.
The 21-year-old versatile rapper, who started his career in 2014, is among the few local artists who are being played on Trace Africa and Channel O.
Snuzzie Brown said he is grateful that his hard work is finally paying off.
“At first it was hard with people looking down upon me because I was coming from rural areas.
“In my area, people were sceptical about my music, being a rapper in a rural area where mostly sungura is a dominant genre but after releasing ‘Zimbo Girl’ which is getting airplay on international channels changed everything,” he said.
Before his international breakthrough, Snuzzie Brown conquered Manicaland with “Zimbo Girl” ruling the roosts on Diamond FM’s top 20 charts for six months.
He has also been receiving vast airplay for “Gukumatsatse” which features Mutare based gospel rapper Teknic.
Snuzzie Brown said he finances his music from a part-time job.
“I’m just happy that my hard work is starting to bear fruits.
“I work as a seasonal clerk at GMB Mutasa paying for my recording and videos.
“At first my parents thought I was wasting money investing in my music but they are now my strongest supporters. It is humbling to see people appreciating my music,” he said.
