Prince Musarurwa laid to rest
The Runonzi Rudo singer was yesterday buried in Musarurwa Village where he was confined for the greater part of his illness. He succumbed to lung cancer aged 31.
Fellow artiste and family friend Diana “Mangwenya” Samkange described the affable crooner’s death as a blow to the music industry. Afro-fusion crooner Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa who died over the weekend has been laid to rest.
Mangwenya, who was part of the advance team which coordinated the funeral wake along with Yasini Dhala of Devine Assignments, described the late Musarurwa as a talented and sociable musician.
“He was a good friend of mine and we used to hang around together as a brother and sister. We were inseparable before he relocated to Zvimba where we buried him in his village.
“Everything went according to plan and we are happy with the turnout at the burial as fellow artistes and music promoters came to support him,” said Mangwenya who was part of the organising team along with Dhala of Divine Assignment, Wanisayi “Mahwindo” Mutandwa, Ammi Jamanda and Pah Chihera.
Mangwenya commended music promoters and individuals who made contributions to give Musarurwa a befitting send-off.
“We also want to thank individuals and promoters who showed Prince’s family some love by making contributions. “Some of the music promoters who contributed comprise Mahwindo Foundation, Edd 10 UK, Y2K UK, Chipaz Promotions, 2 Kings Entertainment, Boss Spencer Madziya, Zimbabwe Music Rights Association among others and fellow musicians,” she added.
Events director of the day, Dhala who came along with fellow artistes from Harare, hailed musicians for their unity. “Of course I was the events director at the show but I was really impressed by the support fellow musicians gave to Prince Musarurwa.
“There was a number of performances I saw from artistes like Bernard Betera, Ammi Jamanda, Texas.
“There are also other artistes who attended the burial like First Farai and Carlos Green who showed us all the support. “As for promoters, they did their part by paying their contributions while others managed to attend the funeral wake.
“It was indeed a show of unity among various stakeholders who worked with Prince Musarurwa,” he said.
Musarurwa who rose to prominence with his chart-topper Runonzi Rudo featuring Pah Chihera toured England, the US and the sub-region holding a series of shows. Locally, he was on-demand with music promoters and upmarket joint owners who hosted exclusive and themed parties.
He was also popular with couples, especially during this time of the month of love.
