The police have arrested one more MDC Alliance activist over the deadly violence which rocked Harare after the July 30 elections. Jeremiah Zivengwa, 41, was hauled before Harare magistrate Francis Mapfumo facing public violence charges.
He was released $50 bail pending trial.
Opposition activists protested in central Harare after the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) declared that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had won the elections.
As the protests turned violent, the military swooped into the city centre shooting at the demonstrators.
Six people died while several others were injured in a development that was widely condemned by the international community.
None of the military personnel involved in the shootings have been arrested although scores of opposition activists have since appeared in court.
President Mnangagwa has since promised to set up a commission of inquiry into the killings.
Meanwhile, Zivengwa was remanded to September 4 when he is expected to go on trial together with the other 31 activists arrested over the clashes.
Prosecuting, Michael Reza said the suspects are responsible for the six fatalities, adding there was a direct link connecting the accused to the crime.
However, the activists are denying the charges.
According to defence lawyers, over half of the suspects are employed by MDC Alliance as caretakers, security officers and general hand.
Some according to the lawyers were the party’s poll agents who were deployed in Uzumba- Maramba-Pfungwe (UMP).
Court was told that the suspects were caught-up in a drag-net arrest soon after their arrival at Harvest house from UMP.
They argued that the suspects sought refuge at Harvest House after soldiers opened fire at civilians.
