Police worried about hit-and-run accidents!
When an accident occurs, motorists should help each other, according to a top cop.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi made the call after a number of hit-and-run accidents were reported across the country.
“The ZRP reiterates that motorists should stop, help the injured, and report all road traffic accidents to the Police within 24 hours,” he said.
“Police in Bulawayo arrested Tapiwa Nyika (24) for failure to stop after a serious road traffic accident.
“The suspect, who was driving a Toyota Wish vehicle (AFP 0788), hit a pedestrian in Entumbane Area C, Bulawayo, and sped off and the victim sustained severe injuries.”
Ass Comm Nyathi said in another case, a motorist driving a white Alteza vehicle, fatally struck a pedestrian, who was crossing Hyde Park Road, in Bulawayo.
“The motorist did not stop after the accident,” he said.
“Similarly, on 07/07/22 at around 1845 hours, a motorist driving an unidentified vehicle hit a pedestrian along Chiremba Road, near the Balancing Rocks in Epworth, and sped off and the victim died on the spot.”
