Platinum date Bosso in Chibuku Quarter final

It will be a repeat of last year’s final in the Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final as Harare City host holders Triangle but the major highlight will be the epic clash between FC Platinum and Highlanders at Mandava.

In a draw conducted on Friday in the capital, a number of mouth-watering ties are on the cards as the Chibuku Super Cup enters the quarter-final stages.

In his first game as new Highlanders coach, gaffer Pieter de Jongh Bosso knocked out Dynamos in the first round of the competition.

Their opponents Pure Platinum Play had to work overtime, requiring a penalty shoot-out to beat Chapungu.

Speaking just after the draw, Highlanders vice-chairman Modern Sikhuthele Ngwenya said his team is ready for Pure Platinum Play.

“So Platinum being champions and playing in the champions league we respect them but Highlanders is on a roll right now, we are playing beautiful football.

“When we play Platinum it is going to be a very good match because Platinum is also playing well.

“So I’m looking forward to a very good match and I pray that we win that game.

“As the oldest team in the land we are targeting the Cup, we should be in the Cup final and clinch the cup,” said Ngwenya.

Meanwhile, last year finalists Triangle FC and Harare City have been paired against each other.

The Sugar Sugar Boys beat the Sunshine Boys in last year’s epic final at Gibbo Stadium to lift the prestigious tournament.

Triangle chairman Lovemore Matikinyire is bracing for exciting times as they face the Citizens once again.

“It’s a very exciting draw given that we played City in the final ( last year) and we are playing them again in the quarter-final (this year).

“We are looking forward to an exciting game. Anything can happen in the game but we are confident as the current champions will be able to prevail and go into the next round,” said Matikinyire.

Matikinyire added that retaining the cup will be critical for the Triangle-based side.

“It has always been a critical role given that we are in the CAF because of the Chibuku Super Cup.

“Obviously it will be good for us to retain the Chibuku as well as participate in the Confederations Cup. So its a critical trophy to us,” added Matikinyire.
