Pastor takes her neighbor to court
A Tafara church pastor hauled her neighbor to court accusing her of assaulting and tarnishing her image in the society.
Mercy Nyamakope opened up at the Harare Civil Court where she applied for a protection order against Maris Mangowo.
“She accuses me of causing her grandchildren’s arrest for looting during the shutdown protest last month.
“She comes to my home and at the church calling me all sorts of names.
“I want her to stop tarnishing my image and to clear my name that I didn’t cause the arrest of her grandchildren,” she said.
Nyamakope told the court that she just wanted her name cleared since she was a pastor.
“I want her to clear my name since I am a well-known preacher.
“We are both advanced in age. I don’t see why we should continue fighting over this issue,” she said.
In response, Mangowo denied the allegations.
“I have never assaulted her, we just had a misunderstanding when my grandchildren were arrested.
“I respect her since she is a pastor and she even prays for my family.
“I am a health worker and my duty is to go on a door to door mission checking on children.
“If she bars me from her place I won’t have access to her children,” she said.
Presiding Magistrate Noah Gwatidzo granted the protection order in Nyamakope’s favour.
Mangowo was ordered not to visit Nyamakope’s home.
