PARENTS BAY FOR DOKORA’S BLOOD | The 24-hour ultimatum given to Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Lazarus Dokora, to resign as Minister has lapsed and Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has since scaled up its demand for Dokora to resign by calling for nationwide demonstrations against the failed minister.
ARTUZ has set Thursday, 23 November 2017, as the day to pile pressure on Dokora and force his resignation so that the education sector can recover in the post-Mugabe era. Dokora stands as one of the worst Ministers of education Zimbabwe has had since independence and was only appointed because of his proximity to the disgraced first lady, Grace Mugabe.
Dokora was never fit to be a minister of such a critical sector as education since his own children do not learn here. He was rejected by the people in the 2013 elections only to be smuggled back by Grace Mugabe because he had promised to add the false history of Robert Mugabe into the education curriculum as part of creating the Mugabe dynasty.
The Minister is also arrogant and corrupt. He does not respect education practitioners especially teachers whom he has consistently threatened, scolded and undermined in public. Dokora has also been figured in the abuse of monies in the education sector by sponsoring Grace Mugabe’s so called ‘meet the people rallies.’
He also looted monies under the guise of an education conference which turned out to be nothing but the humiliation of school heads who were made to wear uniforms and march in solidarity with Mugabe who has since been declared a public enemy.
As the head of the ministry responsible for education he also failed to protect learners, teacher and school properties which were abused by Grace Mugabe and her husband.
It is these sins and more which has riled ordinary teachers, parent and pupils alike. As a precursor to the protests slated for Thursday, ARTUZ will join the generality of Zimbabweans who will march tomorrow, 22 November 2017, demanding for Robert Mugabe to stepdown immediately.
The protests are being held under the theme ‘Save our Education Campaign’ and will see thousands of teachers, parents, education stakeholders and ordinary citizens showing their displeasure against Dokora’s continued reign by peacefully protesting across the country.
