ONLY IN ZIMBABWE: RUWA CELEBRATES TRAFFIC LIGHTS

The traffic lights have been welcomed by residents as a timely venture to save the lives of both pedestrians and motorists.

The lights were mounted along the Mutare Highway at Ruwa Shopping Centre.

“These lights have eased congestion on this road. It was difficult to get into the highway when you are driving from Ruwa suburb; you would actually gamble to get into the main road because of high volumes of traffic in the highway,” Runesu Jonhera a Ruwa resident.

“Now vehicles can now get into the main road without installed so as to reduce congestion at the busy intersection and enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists.

The venture was done by a private company and Ruwa local board after a series of accidents on the road.

“The move by the company to install traffic lights at this intersection is a noble idea and it will help to ease congestion and accidents at this spot.

“The development will facilitate smooth flow of traffic at the site,” said Takudzwa one of the motorist at the intersection.

The solar powered traffic light is the brain child of Solarlux Company which specialises in traffic lights and CCTV.

Head of operation for the company Fedelis Ruwaze told H-Metro that they installed the traffic lights after been awarded a tender by Ruwa local board to construct three traffic lights.

“We won a tender from Ruwa local board to construct three traffic lights.

“So far we have completed working on installing the traffic light at the intersection of Mutare and Chiremba road,” said Fedelis.

He said that the traffic lights were solar powered so it will not be affected by electricity power cuts.

“In the event that there is no electricity the traffic lights will not be affected as they use solar.” said Fedelis.

He said that the company was working on putting modern traffic lights on Zimbabwe’s roads.
