Nurses down tools for PPE
Nurses at Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital yesterday demonstrated against the lack of personal protective equipment and unpaid allowances.
The hospital has been set aside as an isolation centre in the fight against Covid-19.
The nurses were demonstrating within the hospital premises singing holding placards.
One of the nurses said they are aggrieved because of unpaid allowances which they were promised by the Government when it took over management of the hospital to spearhead the fight against Covid-19.
H-Metro news crew was sent out by the hospital security before they could get an official comment from the hospital on site management.
One of the nurses who were demonstrating said they are continuing again today until the matter is addressed.
“Hapasi kuzoshandwa pano, we are risking our lives without an allowance and it’s not worth it, imi ve media mudzoke mangwana tinenge tiri pano zvekare until they address our grievances,” she said.
Harare City Council Health Services Doctor Prosper Chonzi’s phone went unanswered.
