There was a false start to the trial of businessman and socialite Genius Kadungure as the amounts he failed to remit in taxes are said to have been reduced, prompting the matter to be postponed to February 2020.
On one of the counts which is before the court in which the socialite is accused of failing to remit US$417 940 in taxes, the monies have now been reduced to US$100 000.
Kadungure who is facing an array of charges, one of them involving his failure to pay his taxes appeared before Harare Magistrate, James Mberewere and his matter was postponed to February 11, 2020.
Through his lawyer, Jonathan Samukange, Kadungure applied for a postponement of the trial on the basis that he had only been furnished with papers notifying him of further investigation by the State on Tuesday morning just before his court appearance.
The trial could not kick-off as the court was not ready to commence, citing the reduction in figures as the impediment.
Kadungure’s company, Piko Trading Private Limited is alleged to have misrepresented to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) that it made total sales of $2 777 678, inclusive of Value Added Tax, when in actual fact the company had made $9 092 951, between February 2009 and May 2016.
