Neighbor Cons Neighbor US$300

A HARARE man lost US$300 to his neighbour who claimed he works at Makombe Building and helps people acquire birth certificates and emergency passports.

Willard Tom trusted the neighbour and gave him his money because he needed a three-day emergency passport.

He did not know he was being conned.

Now, Epilidia Manhando, the wife of the man who took the money, whose identity has not been revealed, has approached the Harare Civil Court seeking a peace order against Tom.

She said:

“I want Tom to be barred from my home.

“He comes to cause violence and threatens me and my children.

“My husband left home a month ago, going to Murehwa for gold panning.

“Tom was not even there when my husband was doing his deals with his sister-in-law.”

In his defence Tom said:

“Her husband claims he works at Makombe and l gave him money because my child was sick and needed an emergency passport for his treatment in South Africa.

“He then ran away after taking my money so l just went to her home to check for him and not to cause violence.”

Magistrate Tamara Chibindi granted the protection order to Munhando.

Tom was ordered to approach the small claims court for him to get his money back.
