Ndebele king challenged on Gukurahundi.
Ibhetshu lika Zulu Secretary General Mbuso Fuzwayo has challenged the three claimants to the Ndebele throne to air their views on what needs to be done regarding the resolution of the Gukurahundi genocide that claimed more than 20 000 lives in Matabeleland and Midlands.
Speaking to this publication on Friday Fuzwayo said, “The chiefs recently met President Emmerson Mnangagwa over the Gukurahundi issue. We are now calling upon all the three claimants to the Ndebele throne to put their voice on this important matter. If they do not speak about Gukurahundi we will be worried about whose interest they are serving .”
Fuzwayo said it is the duty of a King to show his people that he can lead from the front.
“If the three claimants are serious about wanting to assume the all powerful position left by King Lobengula they must be willing to lead from the front in dealing with matters such as the genocide that almost wiped the people they want to lead.
“How will they lead people who are bleeding from the genocide? How will they lead chiefs who speak about Gukurahudni yet they are silent? How will they lead community organizations that are talking about this matter yet they are silent? Its time for them to open their mouths and find their voices. As the people of this region we are watching and waiting.”
Of the three claimants to the Ndebele throne Bulelani Khumalo seems to have won the favour of the people and has been proactive in attending key events in Matabeleland.
Recently he attended the burial of the late revered ZPRA stalwart Dumiso Dabengwa and he was greeted with loud cheers from the crowd.
