NASTY C NAILS IT

…Ammara in no show
…local acts exposed

This aptly sums up most South African rapper Nasty C’s performance at the well-attended “Change A Life” charity event held at Wingate Golf Club last Saturday.

NASTY C NAILS IT

The 21-year-old, who promised a ‘dope performance’ before the event shortly after his arrival at a press conference, exuded confidence as he gave merry-makers a spirited act, befitting the star he is.

Besides performing sing along tracks from start finish, his stage communication, interaction and of course the verve he ushered, proved Nasty C was indeed in a league of his own.

He had total control of proceedings unlike most locals who don’t treat the stage as the C.E.O’s office.

At one point, Nasty C politely ordered some beefy bouncers and star-struck fans who had invaded the stage to leave and they simply complied.

Despite his tiny frame, the rapper would bark instructions to his sound engineer to ensure he gives fans quality music and real value for their money.

The most sought after South African rapper sent the over 6000 crowd wild when he played such club bangers as Said, Nda, Hell Naw and Allow among others.

He also sampled some of the tracks off his new album – Strings & Bling.

As expected, Nasty C saved the best for the last when he played the people’s favourite song – Particular – towards the end of his slot.

Like any other high profile show, Nasty C’s Change A Life event, which was no doubt a hip hop and trap affair, had it’s talking points set to ignite a lot of debate.

Takura

Ladies’ man Takura Shonhai, who performed earlier, received a rapturous reception when he appeared on stage.

NASTY C NAILS IT

Backed by his newly assembled live band – Shabbach – Takura said all has changed since he can now improvise on stage.

Fans also sang along to his playlist, which comprises popular songs like MaObama, Mhofu Mekenyenye, Mungandidini, Zino Irema, Ngoro Yemoto and Mai Mwana among others.

After his fine performance, ladies in the VIP enclosure swarmed him begging for photographs.

King98

After Takura’s performance, Zimbabwe might have given birth to a new rapper in King 98 on that special night.

Born Ngoni Dondo, the South Africa based rapper lit the stage with a well-choreographed act.

The talented rapper, who was introduced to the world at a bigger platform, was composed as ever yet energetic throughout his set.

Despite playing unfamiliar songs like Defeat, Man Dem, Mind Them, Dule and Flex, King 98 still managed to steal hearts of many and it was not surprising to see fans demanding ‘selfie’ moments with him.

H-Metro is reliably informed that King 98 will be collaborating with Caspper Nyovest next month, in yet another ground-breaking collabo.

King 98’s handlers confirmed the development.

And owing to what we saw at Wingate, a new star with raw talent is surely set to raise the flag high.

JAH PRAYZAH BEGS FANS
And then there was Jah Prayzah on stage who was another subject of the night.

Did he play for the wrong crowd or not?

That was the question on many a fan’s lips as the event had turned out to be a hip hop and trap music affair.

Even Jah Prayzah himself conceded it was a hip hop affair live on stage.

Without fear or favour, it was a night that Jah Prayzah laboured to convince the fans.

At one point, fans would just look at him and the other moment they could be seen waving and gyrating at his music.

Owing to his calculating nature, Jah Prayzah could afford to joke with fans as he knew that he was playing for the wrong crowd despite giving it all.

At one point he joked with fans if they could allow him to play his mbiras.

To some, these were expected antics to ‘kill’ the time in his quest to win hearts of the strong crowd.

It was just a difficult day for him as fans’ appeared divided with the majority biased towards hip hop.

However, Jah Prayzah managed to dig deep into his bag of tricks as he surprised fans when he did a few lines of hip hop.

In short, it was a night that Jah Prayzah worked overtime as he tried his best to win hearts of many.

EXQ

It should be noted that Nasty C show’s intervals had their refreshing moments.

And one such moment came when the dynamic duo of Ash Styles and Nivek’s chemistry paid off as they lit up the night ahead of ExQ’s act.

Ash Styles, who now doubles as a chanter while Nivek sticks to the turntables as a selector, had a good day in office.

They played popular club bangers such as Sista Bettina by Mgarimbe, Left Right (Brickz), Tekno’s Go before they signed out with Silent Killer’s Locker Mastreets as they paved way for ExQ.

It appears ExQ still has plenty of work to do on stage despite having a number of hits being played on radio.

It’s now time he translates radio popularity to inspiring stage performances.

His male dancers showed energy while ExQ remained ‘stiff’.

It was evident that ExQ needs more rehearsals to be a force to reckon with on stage.

Fellow chanters Nutty O and Freeman who made a surprise appearance saved him.

He finally managed to up the tempo when Freeman joined him when they played such tracks as Nzenza and Jerusarema while Nutty O’s presence was strongly felt.

To a stranger, it was as if ExQ had hijacked Freeman and Nutty’s show as they eclipsed him.

AMMARA NO SHOW
Despite the show going to plan, songbird Ammara Brown was conspicuous by her absence.

Event organisers too were riled by the songbird’s conduct as she decided not to come despite being paid all her dues.

In an interview with H-Metro, show organiser and Impala Car Rental boss Thompson Dondo was disappointed by Ammara’s conduct.

“We paid her all her performance fees and we were told she was now staying in South Africa and also made logistics that she comes.

“When we thought all had been sealed, she told us she could not attend since she was attending to her sister who was giving birth,” said Dondo.

Asked what action they were going to take, Dondo said:

“It’s very simple, we are simply going to demand all that we paid her because she breached the contract.

“We could have handed the money directly to the orphans than giving it to someone who is not loyal as is the case now.

“We will first hear from her handlers but we are definitely going to demand back our money that we paid her in full.”

CHARITY CAUSE
Meanwhile, Dondo hailed fans who attended the event aimed at raising funds to cater for the Alfred Dondo Foundation.

The foundation caters for 65 less privileged people including the blind, orphans and disabled.

Some of the beneficiaries are now back in school after having lost hope in life.

Dondo’s intervention has been lauded by many as the businessman is also giving back to his community in Chivhu.

The traditional leadership has also blessed his efforts and one of the chiefs graced the event.

While it was a charity event where Zimbabwe hosted one of South Africa’s most talented artistes, local artistes should have learnt one or two things at the show in as far as professionalism goes.

It was a night where lives were changed indeed!
