A Mutare man, Pension Gwinyai has been dragged to court for attempted murder after running over a soldier following a bar dispute.
Gwinyai, who is represented by lawyer Chris Ndhlovu, is denying the charges.
It is reported that 52-year-old was remanded in custody to October 26 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court when he appeared before magistrate Nyasha Kuture.
The court heard that on October 10, 2020, Gwinyai and Nedziwe had a misunderstanding after the latter tried to restrain the businessman from assaulting an unknown patron at a local night club in Dangamvura high-density suburb in the city.
It is further alleged that Gwinyai stroke Nedziwe twice on the face with a fist and the soldier retaliated by hitting him with a stone on the head.
The soldier reportedly left the club going home. That is when Gwinyai drove his vehicle at high speed and hit Nedziwe who went airborne and landed five metres from the tarred road in an unconscious state.
Nedziwe is currently admitted at 3 Field Hospital in Mutare and his condition is reported to be critical.
Gwinyai who is said to be critically ill after being hit by the stone was in 2014 dragged to court for yet another violence case.
It is alleged that he had beaten a Mutare man who had tried to restrain him from confronting local businessman Nyikadzino Takaendesa for dating his (Gwinyai) then 17-year-old daughter.
