Munetsi on Messi duel – ‘DREAM COME TRUE!’

MARSHALL Munetsi says it was a dream come true for him to play against one of the greatest footballers in the world, Lionel Messi.

The Stade Reims midfielder’s team, however, lost 2-0 to Messi’s PSG whose goals came from want-away striker, Kylian Mbappe.

“It was an honour to play against Messi, he is one of the greatest footballers of our generation.

“It’s God’s grace. He made it happen and I’m grateful for the opportunity, it is something that I’ve always dreamt of.

“It’s a dream come true for me and I’m happy about it,” he said.

The Zimbabwe international hounded Messi the moment he came on and went on to win 10 duels throughout the course of the match and made 11 recoveries, according to FotMob.

Asked if he wasn’t nervous, Munetsi said:

“No I wasn’t, I just told myself that I could do this and I treated this just any other team we would play.

“I didn’t want to think a lot about it but I made sure I was confident about myself and I prepared myself mentally and physically before the game.”

Munetsi, 25, had his headed goal ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee.

“And I’m happy that I didn’t do too bad during the game, I was proud of myself.

“I even received positive comments from my teammates and family back home and even fans in general.”

Munetsi is set to arrive today for the World Cup qualifiers.

Zimbabwe play South Africa at home on Friday before travelling to Ethiopia next Tuesday.

The former Orlando Pirates star says he wants to bring the form that he is to the national team.

“I want to do well for the national team. I want to give my all, I have played most of the games here and have gained some experience which I want to bring to the national team.

“I pray that we do well in these qualifiers and I know that’s what everyone wants.

“And I’m happy to be playing for my country, it’s everyone’s wish and I’m grateful for the opportunity,” he said
