The call came after four ageing trees were uprooted by a storm on Tuesday, two of which fell on trees and were uprooted by a storm on Tuesday, two of which fell on a surgery along Leopold Takawira Street, destroying the building and two parked vehicles.
Another tree fell and blocked traffic yesterday along Simon Vengai Muzenda Road.
One motorist, Matthias Muronda, appealed to local authorities to redress the situation by replacing old trees to save people’s lives.
“We are now driving in fear, especially along Leopold Takawira towards the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals,” said Muronda.
“Our lives are in danger and we are appealing to local authorities to address this once and for all because every rain season, the trees are a threat to people, destroying vehicles and property. “Kanzuru inodakuzocheka miti kana panzi pawirwa vanhu kana motokari.
“Vakuda kuziva miti yakawora nekuona ichiwira vanhu nekuparadza midziyo inokosha, hazvisikuti nakidza ende hazvidi mari yeku ZINARA kuti miti iyoyo ichekwe ngavatibatsirewo ipapo,” said Muronda, urging City of Harare to replace ageing trees.
