Mother Kills 13-Year-Old Son For Losing Pen
A Marange woman allegedly assaulted her son to death after he had been sent home from school because he did not have a pen.
It is reported by the Herald that on February 26 at around 9 am Lydia Kahwema’s 13-year-old, returned home from school, after he had been sent home by his teacher for not having a pen.
Upon arrival, the grade seven student, told his mother why he had returned home, which did not settle well with her. Kahwema is said to have assaulted her son with an electrical cable all over his body several times. After the assault, she went on to hit the boy against the wall several times until he was bleeding profusely from the nose and mouth.
The boy was then rushed to Mutare provincial hospital, after falling unconscious, where he died on admission from the severe injuries.
The boy’s body was taken to Parirenyatwa hospitals for post mortem where the doctors concluded that the cause of death was due to blunt force trauma.
Appearing before Mutare High Court Judge Justice Hlekani Mwayera facing charges of culpable homicide, Kahwema was sentenced to 8 years in jail after four years where suspended for five years on condition that she does not commit another offence.
