Outspoken National Patriotic Front (NPF) spokesperson Jealousy Mawarire says President Emmerson Mnangagwa cleared the disbursement of bank loans to Jonathan Moyo and Saviour Kasukuwere at the height of his bitter rivalry with the two G40 kingpins.
The two were forced to skip the country following Mnangagwa’s shock overthrow of President Robert Mugabe with military backing November last year.
Moyo has found himself in a very characteristic rant, this time directed at former First Lady and ally Grace Mugabe for apparently pleading with him and some of her “followers” to find peace with Mnangagwa.
Mawarire, in a tweet, was quick to call Moyo to order, telling the former Higher and Tertiary Education Minister he was a hypocrite for putting up a social media campaign for Mnangagwa to lose the July election when he actually enjoyed the new President’s benevolence.
“I also hope @ProfJNMoyo doesn’t think his #LetsKwekweHim nonsense was a national cry. Sometimes people are better off quiet than expose their duplicitous selves, who paid his children’s school fees when he moved to Kenya, wasn’t it ED (Mnangagwa)?
“While @ProfJNMoyo is within his right to criticise anyone whom chooses to, it’s his pass time, he has to be truthful throughout. One day, his reason for the fallout with Mai Mugabe will be told, and it’s never about Mai Mugabe wanting to be NPF president, she never wanted,” said Mawarire.
However, further investigations by NewZimbabwe.com revealed that what Mawarire referred to as the payment of fees for Moyo’s daughter were in fact Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe facilitated loans advanced to the exiled former Minister and his ally.
Moyo is said to have written to RBZ governor John Mangudya early this year requesting for funds to pay fees for his 12-year-old youngest child who is attending school abroad.
According to the source, Moyo requested for US$10,000 while Kasukuwere applied for US$20,000.
It was further revealed that on receiving the requests, Mangudya, in attempts to save his neck, referred the applications to Mnangagwa who gave his nod.
The funds were later released to the ex-ministers after three months.
Since becoming state leader, Mnangagwa has been on a drive to bury the hatchet with his former enemies, starting with a rare visit to the now late former Prime Minister and MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai whom he assured of his perks as ex-premier, medical bills, and title to a government mansion in Highlands.
Mnangagwa also pulled a shocker some two weeks ago when he raided government coffers to hire an expensive jet to ferry Grace to her mother’s funeral back home.
It would not be a surprise if he advanced similar favours to Moyo and Kasukuwere, who once waged a fierce campaign to block him from his ascendancy to the country’s top job.
