President Mnangagwa has said he shall next week announce new lockdown measures as current regulations expire Monday.
Citizens are anxiously waiting for the lockdown to end and most of them have expressed anger towards the government for how they are handling the situation.
Speaking at the virtually held first Political Actors Dialogue executive meeting at State House in Harare on Friday morning, President Mnangagwa said:
I will be announcing how we are proceeding with regards to the lockdown.
This will be informed by scientific data and recommendations from our health experts.
He said when businesses and some members of the public have made it clear that they want lockdown regulations relaxed to prevent a total collapse of the economy.
Observers argue that the lockdown worsened the economic and humanitarian crisis the country was already facing before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Current, stiff lockdown regulations were imposed amid the backdrop of a surge in new coronavirus cases and deaths.
The spike was attributed to complacency during the festive season.
