Mnangagwa Junior Duped $1 500
President Mnangagwa’s son Emmerson Junior was reportedly duped by one of his wedding vendors who failed to deliver suits worth US$1 500 as promised.
The accused, Samson Mavhunga, was not asked to plead when he appeared before a Harare magistrate yesterday.
The court heard that sometime in May 2019, the complainant met Mavhunga who indicated that he specializes in making and supplying wedding suits.
The complainant got interested because he was planning his wedding, which was scheduled for August, so the two exchanged numbers.
In June, the complainant met with Mavhunga and gave him his order of five suits he was to order from Italy, specially designed.
Mavhunga charged the complainant US$3 50o for the five suits and was paid a US$1 500 deposit. They agreed that the balance was to be paid on delivery.
Mavhunga was contacted frequently and he would say the suits were on their way. Two weeks before the wedding, the complainant contacted Mavhunga to ascertain the position of the suits and he became evasive, stating that the suits were not yet in Zimbabwe.
Mavhunga was engaged by the complainant in a bid to recover his money and that is when he discovered that he had no capacity to pay back the money to buy the suits, prompting him to lodge a police report.
Strike Matongera appeared for the State.
