Mental patient nabbed for robbery

A mental health patient was on Thursday brought to court charged with robbery of a motor vehicle and was arrested for driving a stolen car.

The suspect, Mazvita Wilbert Mbiza, 22, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga, who released him into the custody of his parents, who are to take him to two government mental health practitioners for further examination.

Allegations are that on December 29 at Choppies Complex in Ruwa, at around 11:45pm, the complainant was guarding the premises and vehicles at the complex together with other guards when he was approached by Mbiza who ordered them to remain seated and they complied.

Mbiza is alleged to have removed his belt and started assaulting the complainant and his workmates before he approached a parked car, opened an unlocked door, gained entry, searched for the keys and found them in the car and drove off.

Mbiza was arrested in Msasa after the car had run out of fuel.

Lancelot Mutsokoti appeared for the State.
