MDC-T Responds To Reports The Party Was Expelled From MDC Alliance

MDC-T, led by Douglas Mwonzora, has responded to reports saying the party was expelled from the MDC Alliance.

A letter that circulated on Tuesday suggested that “the principals of the MDC Alliance” had convened a meeting and resolved to expel MDC-T as it was violating principles of the alliance that was formed in 2017.

In a statement issued by the party’s Secretary for Information and Publicity, Witness Dube, MDC-T said:

The Movement for Democratic Change T today held National Standing Committee at a venue in Harare. All COVID-19 Protocols were fully observed. President Douglas Mwonzora, Vice President Thokozani Khupe and 2nd Vice President Elias Mudzuri were present.

The meeting took note of a letter circulating on social media suggesting the expulsion of the MDC T from the MDC Alliance. It was observed that:

a) No such letter was served on the MDC T

b) No meeting of the coalition Principal’s Forum was ever convened as alleged in the document.

The meeting noted that unlike before elections, the coalition Principal’s Forum after elections is made up of Principals of political parties in Parliament. This basically means the MDC T and PDP only. given that Prof Welshman Ncube dissolved his party in 2019_ It was, therefore. resolved to totally disregard the circulating document.

After receiving a report on the progress in the effort towards National Dialogue, the National Standing Committee resolved that the party must intensify its efforts to foster genuine, inclusive and unconditional National Dialogue. The purpose of this dialogue is to find solutions that will lead to the betterment of all Zimbabweans.

The meeting resolved that given the devastation caused by the current variant of COVID 19, the party will work hand in glove with health authorities and other partners to ensure that all eligible Zimbabweans are vaccinated. It was also resolved that the party will be guided by the best interests of Zimbabweans in all its programs.

In line with the party National Congress resolutions since 2013, it was resolved that concerted efforts must be made to ensure the full engagement of Zimbabwe with the international communit.
