The residents said this yesterday on the sidelines of a tour of the flats yesterday by President Mnangagwa.

Residents who talked to H-Metro could not hide the elation.

A 91-year-old granny Rose Karimazondo said she was among the first people to occupy the flats.

“Ndakatanga kugara maflats ano pa Independence ndine makore akawanda ndiri pano.

“Zvatiri kuitirwa izvi zvekugadzirirwa maflats aya ndonzwa manyuku nyuku ndafara zvisingaite nekusvika kwa President Mnangagwa,” said Karimazondo.

Another resident Chamunorwa Rusike said he was happy that they had been remembered and their flats were now being refurbished.

“I am really happy that we have been remembered and now the flats are now refurbished.

“I am very happy for this gesture that we have been shown,” said Rusike.

Loveness Choga shared the same sentiments with Rusike that she was happy that their flats were now renovated.

“These flats were dilapidated, the sewer system was not working well and it was not a pleasant place to live.

“I am grateful and we will make sure that as residents we will maintain the standards,” said Choga.

Grace Mabheka told H-Metro that she had lost hope of ever having a decent place at the flats but now her dreams of a cozy apartment had come true.

“I have lived at this flat for the past 15 years and I did not think that one day we will be remembered and our flats being renovated.

“Kuti dzimba dzinoiswa matiles ndaingozvionerawo kune mamwe ma locations asi izvezvi tiri kutoisirwa matiles and I am happy,” said Mabheka.

Director of housing and Social Development Edmore Nhekairo commended the gesture shown by the President to come and see the progress that they were doing at the flats.

“I am happy that the President came here and had a tour of the flats and he gave us some advice on what to do.

“As council we are committed to making sure that the 2025 vision is realised,” said Nhekairo.
