Man offers extra $10 per month as maintenance
A CITY man offered to pay $10 per month as maintenance for his minor child arguing that he is too poor to pay anything more.
Simbarashe Tomu revealed this at the Harare Civil Court where he was sued by Culture Maguwe for child neglect.
Culture, who claimed upward variation of $150 from $60, said Simbarashe had to take responsibility of his child.
“Prices for basic commodities have gone up and the child is now going to school so she needs more money for her upkeep.
“He goes to work every day where he makes more than $700 per month, I pray he should take into consideration that his child needs more attention.
“I was now taking care of the child responsibility all by myself since $60 was not enough even to pay school fees,” said Culture.
Simbarashe argued that he is not a full-time employee and he does menial jobs.
He then made his shocking offer to the magistrate.
“I can afford to add $10.
“I do menial jobs and most certainly cannot afford to pay the amount she is claiming.
“Things are difficult and business is no longer booming like before, ”said Simbarashe.
Presiding magistrate Nyasha Marufu ordered Simbarashe to pay $90 monthly for his child’s upkeep.
