Man demands paternity tests
A SELF-EMPLOYED technician yesterday begged the court for permission to conduct DNA tests on his three children, saying he doubted their paternity.
Enerst Nyamusoya said he can’t continue paying maintenance to his ex-wife, Felistas Chendambuya, because he doubts they are his.
Felistas had applied for $60 000 for the upkeep of the children aged 14, 12 anda four years.
In her claim, Felistas said she wanted the money for rent, medication and food.
However, Ernest insisted on conducting DNA tests.
“I am asking for permission to conduct DNA tests because I want to know if these children are really mine.
“I have been in and out of this maintenance court because she is always asking for a review of the money every month.
“I have many ex-lovers, but she is the only one who takes me to the maintenance court and I wonder why,” fumed Ernest.
He added:
“I used to repair fixed (phone) landlines, but no one uses them in this era, which means I no longer get enough cash.
“She should understand that I have six minor children that I support.
“She has a Honda Fit and owns a crèche, so she can afford to look after the children.”
In response, Felistas consented to conducting the DNA tests.
“I don’t have a problem with that,” she said.
Magistrate Judith Taruvinga, who presided over the matter, granted permission for DNA tests to be conducted.
She, however, ordered Ernest to pay $47 000 maintenance pending the test results, in the next three months.
