A MAN from Chegutu recently escaped death by a whisker after his Toyota Quantum vehicle rammed into a tree at a portlet farm recently.
H-Metro arrived at the scene, about 18 km from Chinhoyi, just after the accident had occurred and managed to talk to a Baker’s Inn driver and his assistant, who were the first to arrive at the scene.
The driver, told H-Metro that the driver of the Quantum failed to control the vehicle as it was speeding.
Quantum hit and uprooted a tree before landing on its roof. However, the driver and his assistant who preferred not to be identified pulled the driver out of his vehicle.
“The driver was speeding when he overtook us. We were astonished by the speed at which he was travelling. However, just about five minutes after overtaking us, we saw that the vehicle had hit a tree and landed upside down,” said the driver.
He added: “We quickly disconnected the battery and took it off, to prevent the car from exploding.
“We managed to rescue the driver to safety as he was still in a state of shock.”
The driver had a deep cut on his right elbow and a Good Samaritan took him to hospital. e Good Samaritan said the driver was very lucky to be alive.
