A MT DARWIN man is battling for his life after he was attacked by unknown assailants who slit his throat.
He currently cannot talk. Simbarashe Dzuda, was asleep when he was attacked and is admitted in the intensive care unit at Karanda Mission Hospital.
The incident occurred last Friday. Earlier on the fateful day he had had an altercation with a woman he owes money.
Following the altercation, he was warned over his delay to pay back the money. A report with the police was recorded under CR 142/10/20 at Mt Darwin Police Station where investigations are underway.
His sister, Tinashe Gondongwe, said they were concerned about their brother’s situation and needed to know people behind the attack.
“My brother is a mechanic and he owns a garage so he owes one of his clients some money. “The debt is said to have been overdue and during the confrontation, the client warned him that he was taking advantage of her being a woman.
“She then made a phone call and although witnesses did not hear the details of the conversation, two men arrived at the scene within a few minutes.
They got involved in the altercation and even pushed Dzuda.
“The men then promised to deal with Dzuda.
“Witnesses were left wondering how they intended to deal with him or how they would solve the issue.” Tinashe said following the confrontation, Dzuda made an effort to pay part of the money.
“On the same day, he paid US$60 to the woman and promised to settle the remaining US$290 by Friday this week.
“They then signed some affidavits. “Around 12 midnight, he surprised his tenant when he knocked on her door. “The tenant did not open immediately since it was very late but she recognized his voice and peeped only to see him naked.
“Other neighbors went out and found him naked, with blood oozing from his throat,” she said. Tinashe added: “He cannot speak, so we are assuming that the assailants cut his voice box and disappeared.
“He was also cut on his cheek and shoulder. “He crawled out of his room and blood was all over the place. “The neighbors then ferried him to Mt Darwin hospital before being taken to Karanda where he was put in theatre.
“He was then placed on oxygen and he is breathing through a tube connected to his throat.” It is reported that Dzuda wrote down what had transpired.
“He failed to talk but he wrote down what transpired on the day and he did not see the suspects but only realized after the attack.
“We are still trying to find how this happened because from the look of things he was attacked whilst in the house not outside. The attackers had an intention to kill.”
