Army Takes Over As Police Fail To Contain Situation #ShutDownZimbabwe #ZimSituationUpdate
The Zimbabwe National Army took charge of the security in Harare, following a fuel demo staged by citizens.
Earlier the police had fired warning shots and teargas as a protest strike against the fuel Increase as well as economic policies.
The strike follows days of unrest over the government’s failure to pay to deal with the economic woes bedevilling the country.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces are expected to issue a joint press statement on today’s illegal protests.
This follows after some disgruntled citizens took to protesting and mounting their own blockades, by placing rocks and tyres in the road in an effort to ensure that the national shutdown is a success.
Zimbabweans today called for a national shutdown to protest against the price hike of fuel announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday.
There were several incidents one which occurred in Epworth where the riot police are reported to have fired warning shots into the air as it attempted to disperse crowds who had gathered to protest the fuel hikes.
The SABC(South African Broadcasting Corporation) also reported that two people were shot in the massive protests and stay ways that were rocking the country today.

Tragedy As Woman Returning From Work Gets Shot #ShutDownZimbabwe #ZimSituationUpdate
In one of the darker moments from today’s protests against the economic situation, an unidentified woman was badly injured after she was shot in the leg near Epworth Police Station.
The woman is reported to have been returning home from work, although the full circumstances which resulted in her getting shot are still unclear.

The protests against the fuel price hikes and the rising cost of living which started well seem to have turned ugly and violent with reports of looting and burning being recorded.

4 People Shot While 8 Were Arrested In Epworth Over Violence In Fuel Protest
Four people were reportedly shot and injured in Epworth, Harare for taking part in today’s protests against the government.
According to a NewsDay report, 8 people have been arrested for taking part in the protests and the police are reported to be moving from house to house smashing in doors in order to arrest the people inside.
The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU), various groups and individuals have called for a three day stay away after President Emmerson Mnangagwa hiked the price of fuel by over 140 per cent.
Several businesses which had initially opened in the morning have closed shop after a Choppies shop was looted.
In Chitungwiza, schools have also closed for the day amid unconfirmed reports that teachers were assaulted by security details for not taking heed of the stay away.
Parents were asked to come and collect their children way before school ended.
Police Throw Teargas Into People’s Homes
In a rather disturbing development, the anti-riot police in Bulawayo are reported to be throwing teargas into people’s homes.

The police are reported to have had a torrid time in Bulawayo as they tried to control disgruntled citizens who came out in their numbers to show their frustration.
Choppies Pumula Looted In Protest
Choppies Supermarkets seems to be a favourite target for malcontents somehow, after another of its shops in Pumula, Bulawayo was looted by people who took advantage of the protests.
