Lockdown Extended, Schools Ordered to reopen!
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended the level 4 lockdown measures indefinitely to contain the continued surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths, but ordered schools to prepare for reopening.
Parents will be required to help the government in the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Zimbabwe has been on lockdown level 4 since the beginning of July.
Addressing a post-Cabinet media briefing yesterday, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said when schools reopen, parents would be asked to help the government with the provision of PPE.
“As the nation prepares for the reopening of schools, parents are expected to compliment government efforts to provide PPE and other essential requirements for learners,” Mutsvangwa said.
The information minister also applauded Mnangagwa for extending the level 4 lockdown as she says it has proved to be effective as there was a decrease in the number of infections.
“Cabinet was informed that the number of new infections has decreased slightly with a total of 14 275 cases being recorded during the week under review compared to the previous week,” Mutsvangwa said.
“This reflected a 49.5% decrease as the country’s efforts to contain the pandemic showed a high level of effectiveness.
Nevertheless, the Cabinet noted the need to strengthen efforts to contain the third wave of the cvovid-19 pandemic.
As such, therefore, the lockdown level 4 remains in force, however, schools are set to be reopened in the near future.
