Load shedding to ease starting tomorrow: Govt

Loadshedding is expected to ease starting this Tuesday (tomorrow) after the government secured a payment plan with regional power suppliers to add 400 megawatts to the national grid.

Load Shedding Intensifies

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development Mr. George Guvamatanga confirmed the development during a post-budget seminar held in the capital today.

Key economic players attended the post-budget seminar in the capital during which the Minister of Finance and Economic Development Professor Mthuli Ncube made a presentation on the key highlights of his supplementary budget presented in Parliament last week.

The chief economist of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries Mrs. Tafadzwa Bandama condemned the collapse of key economic enablers like electricity which are impacting negatively on economic growth.

“We are happy that the government has taken steps to improve the electricity situation in the country as it is greatly affecting business,” she said.

In response, Mr. Guvamatanga revealed the payment plan which is meant to alleviate the electricity crisis.

“Government to start gradually phasing out load shedding from tomorrow (Tuesday) after the successful agreements with regional power suppliers. 400MW will be imported from a regional power supplier after a weekly power payment arrangement was secured with Treasury,” he said.

Professor Ncube also confirmed during the same occasion that popular talk show host Mrs. Rebecca Chisamba has been roped in to be part of the Treasury’s communication and advocacy task team to help in the dissemination of financial and economic development issues to the majority of Zimbabweans.
